Sexual Assault: Darkest day of her life

That had to be the darkest day of her life.

That was the day when she was told that she needed to dress in a certain way to protect herself.

That was the day when she felt naked despite being fully clothed.

That was the day when she saw a mob of hungry men on the prowl for their prey.

That was the day when she saw people recording videos of assaults rather than helping the victims.

That was the day when she wished every mother had taught her son to respect women.

That was the day when she realized that we have regressed as a society.

100 word fiction: The keys..

The keys to your home door

“Please don’t do this. I beg you. I am sick and tired of this torture.” She could only murmur as he locked her and took the keys away.

The man whom she called ‘father’ had sexually tortured her and her sister for years. He had kept them in an underground cellar hidden from the world including their mother. They always wondered whether their mother had even tried searching for them.

At first, they tried to fight their way out of his clutches. But slowly they resigned themselves to this fate hoping that they rather face death than be his toy.

“She is a lovely child. It’s so painful to even imagine that parents can treat their children in such a gruesome manner.”

Mohita’s smile and cheerfulness hid the pain and torture she had gone through during her childhood. From the time she was 4, her father’s advances towards her were full of perversion and voyeuristic pleasure. As the years went by, they soon evolved into full blown sexual assaults.

She never got to go to school or play with kids of her age. It was only when she escaped after a decade that she got to know about the world outside.

Newspapers across the world are filled with various incidents of sexual violence day in and day out. Perverted & voyeuristic minds, patriarchal societies, the repression of women at every level are some of the underlying factors which have led to an alarming increase in sexual assaults across nations.

While a lot of such cases are being reported, there are thousands more which aren’t reported at all. Whether it’s the fear of being outcast or the fear of death, there are so many countries where women are scared of even going to the police station. The societal reactions make people turn a blind eye to the sufferings faced by women which could even be their own daughters. But they rarely realize that if such incidents go on, the so called civilized society will slowly cease to exist.

She looked out pensively..

She looked out pensively..

As she looked out of the window, she dreamed of a day when she would be free from the pain he had inflicted upon her for years.

When children feel scared, they run to their parents for support and care. But what if parents themselves are the source of fear? Anna’s father had tortured her sexually and psychologically for years on end after her mother had passed away in tragic circumstances.

If that wasn’t enough, he also hit her whenever he could, made her do all the household chores and locked her up within the four walls of the house.
