“That was the trip of a lifetime. We walked hand in hand like a lovestruck couple. We kissed under the Eiffel and had a lovely candle light dinner on the Seine Cruise.”

As she left the house for possibly the last time, she threw the iconic photograph which reminded them of their past. Theirs was a whirlwind romance as they met on a flight where she was the senior flight purser.

Within weeks, they were dating. Their relationship was doomed from the start as she dreamed of soaring in the skies while he expected her to be by his side.

“Yes, you heard it right. There’s someone else in my life.” And saying this, she walked away with tears in her eyes even before he could ask the questions swirling in his head.

Despite their numerous attempts, her parents hadn’t agreed to their relationship. And she feared that if they got together, their lives would be at stake.

“You don’t know the feeling of writing letters to the person you love. There are emotions interspersed in every word.”

In the age of social media, she was almost an exception with her love for penning down letters. Over the last few months, she had written a letter every day and kept it in an envelope to give it to him.

But there was always that unseen fear which held her back from mailing them across.

We were really happy. He really loved me or so it seemed. From talking sweet nothings to spending all his free time with me; he never left my side. Whether it was going to horror flicks together where I could snuggle into him or talking for hours on end in coffee shops, our life seemed totally blissful. I never feared anything if he was around. This went on for months and I was just lost in him. But then, life has its unique ways of jolting you out of slumber. And that’s what happened with me.

Flash Fiction: When I didn’t think twice before sending it!

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

And before I knew, I had hit ‘Send’. Everyone told me to shut myself up. There was almost no support for what I had gone through. Some said that your career would be finished. While others said that your family will be in danger. But I had it enough. There was only so much I could bear. And this time, I had decided to take a stand! I didn’t care what would the result be nor did I care for my life. All I wanted was some relief.

It all started a few months back when I went to apply for my annual leave. With the pressure of teaching more than 10 classes at school, I hadn’t taken leave for a year. I knew that I had given all my hard work, sweat and dedication to this job and hadn’t left any stone unturned to ensure that the people who matter are happy with my contributions. But even in my wildest dreams, I wasn’t prepared for what I had to go through when I met him.

He knew his way with girls. Whether it was his good looks or his persona, girls were head over heels in love with him. But he was used to this. Wherever he went, girls followed him all the way. There were stories floating about him all the time. Some said he slept with each of them. Some said he was a spoilt brat. And there were many others who said that he didn’t know the meaning of love.

Like others, even I thought about him often. But then I was different. I couldn’t bring myself up to say something. Would he ever look at me with those love struck eyes? Would he be my knight in shining armour? He was smart. He was dashing. He seemed the perfect mix of tall, dark and handsome.
