Journey to a self hosted blog

Blogging Journey to a self hosted blog

Blogging Journey

It’s been 7.5 years since I began blogging. When I started my journey, blogging was just about penning down my thoughts and feelings. It simply felt like an online diary where I could rant about anything and everything under the sun. It’s taken lot of hard yards on the road to a self hosted blog.

Slowly, I realized the importance of comments, shares, likes, having a social media presence and so on. It was all about making oneself heard. Blogging was no more a pastime among a select few which was the case in the early 2000s in India. It seemed as though almost everyone was rushing to open a blog. But then, more than 90% of them remained dormant after a few posts. In this clutter, one had to make an effort to be heard and seen.

Does it remind you of Alladin’s lamp?

In Arabic, Kargeen refers to a quaint wooden cottage. First established in 1997 in the posh locality of Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Kargeen Cafe has come a long way with many more outlets having sprung up around Muscat in the years hence.

Oman Diaries: The journey to Jebel Shams

The journey begins!

On the way..

Rugged mountains, smooth winding roads, chilly breeze and a Land Cruiser Prado to boot – The ride to Jebel Shams was an adventure in every way. Located about 2-3 hours by road from Muscat – the capital of Sultanate of Oman and an hour away from the town of Nizwa, Jebel Shams (Sun Mountain) is the tallest point in the Hajar Mountains and at a height of more than 3000m, it is regarded as the tallest point in eastern Arabia. The beautiful village of Al Hamra stands at the base of this mountain peak.

The winding roads leading to the top

The winding roads uphill

Though its said that the journey is more important than the destination, in the case of Jebel Shams, both the journey to the top and the views from the top are nothing short of spectacular. As our driver cum guide Majid drove up the winding roads, we observed that the temperature fell from around 30 degrees to just about 12 degrees.

Rugged mountains as far as the eyes can see

In a matter of about 25 minutes, the heat was replaced by chilly winds hitting all our faces.

How far would you go to get closer to someone you love?

Love is an emotion. Love is life. Love makes ones world go round. Love gives one the hope to live a life. If there is no love in life, there is no life itself. Love is that feeling which stops you in your tracks and makes you admire the beauty of everything around. Each of us has a different definition of love. But what is common? It is the fact that love gives your life a meaning to live.

Some find love at first sight. Whether its the smile or the good looks, so many of us just fall for the one person in that very instant. For some it wears over time while for others it goes on. School and college crushes are where a huge number of love stories begin. That feeling of sitting with her in class, bunking classes for movies, having candle light dinners, spending hours on phone calls and more are the stuff lots of us have gone through. During these times, the world seems such a beautiful place. Everything feels perfect. Life seems like a bliss without any problems in sight.

“Destiny of life” – My entry for the Get Published contest

The Idea

The story is about two individuals who are as different as chalk and cheese. It’s the story of their love transcending years and continents. If he is quiet, calm and reserved, she is bubbly, cheerful and vivacious. If he rarely talks to people, she talks so much to anyone and everyone that she could create a racket. He’s a suave, young and dynamic working man of today. But his life revolves around work. There’s something he wants to forget. There’s something which is bothering him which he wants to escape from. So he keeps himself as busy as he can. There is a strong desire to earn as much as he can in the least possible time.
