First day of summer

First day of summer

It had been a long hard winter with coronavirus wreaking havoc day after day. It was heartbreaking to see people struggling for their lives as the medical community began to buckle under the constant stream of patients. The dark clouds of uncertainty hung over everyone’s life.

But the vaccinations provided a silver lining amidst these dark clouds. And as the first day of summer began, these vaccinations were speeding ahead and began to show that there was light at the end of the tunnel. As the sun shone bright, the brightness in people’s lives also began to take shape.

Visualizing an apocalypse

Visualizing an apocalypse

The positivity rate has rapidly increased as the infection has torn through the country at breakneck speed. There is a huge influx of patients in already full hospitals each day. The rush for beds, for oxygen, for medicines, for food and more has only intensified as people grapple for survival. And then there are so many who don’t make it to a hospital. Some isolate and survive at home while others die before they get that life saving injection or supplemental oxygen. They leave behind grieving families. And in the end, they just end up as a statistic amongst the numerous funeral pyres burning across the city and the country.

It was just the start

of summer but the clouds of

doom came together

Note: It’s gut wrenching to see so many people in India (my home) suffer through this brutal coronavirus wave. Having already lost loved ones, I hope and pray that we all get the courage and strength to get through this.

Moonlight

Moonlight

It came as no surprise to anyone when she entered the shop and found it inhabited by fluffy cuddly creatures. She had always seen a lot of people bringing their pets or kids coming to the shop to play with them time and time again. In presence of these creatures, the kids seemed full of verve. On full moon nights, the shop used to organize pet friendly events for people to play and bond with these creatures. Their aim was to move thoughts of animal lovers away from the froth in the name of animal protection by other groups. Though the shop’s owner knew that his shop was in imminent danger from these groups, it didn’t stop him one bit. He was more than happy working in the shadows of others to do his bit in taking care of these creatures.

Hikes

Hikes

These are desperate times for economies around the world. Hikes of all kinds whether its in utility rates, ticket rates, hotel rates, prices in retail and more maybe required to prevent a number of organizations and countries going bust. But on the other hand, hikes will discourage people even further as there are millions who have lost jobs.

The most important thing for almost anyone is to ensure that they are able to put food on the table. All the other luxuries may have taken a backseat for the foreseeable future. Life has become all the more intense and it is a far cry from the fantabulous days before the pandemic when money hunters didn’t need to do much at all as everything seemed hunky dory. The struggle for survival is on as the pandemic has given people a mirror on their actions from the past.

Birthday

Birthday

Over the years, I have always been lucky to spend my birthday with people I care about. While I was never interested to celebrate birthdays with too many people, I remember the ones during school days when my parents used to invite a few of my good friends home. After cutting the cake and the exchange of gifts we used to have a nice meal at the restaurant of my choice. Surely not too fancy but an evening well spent nonetheless.

Flight

Flight

At first, she was scared that the weight of her

wings and gravity would make it painful

to fly but her mother calmed her down.

Off she went flying over the mountains and

the sea discovering a new world which

was both beautiful and threatening.

With time she started to enjoy flying be it

alone or in a flock so much so that

waited to fly off each day everyday.

New York City

New York City

Initially, this image reminded me of the Lego building blocks with its different colours, shapes and sizes. But when I read that this has been done by Piet Mondrian when he moved to New York, I could figure the different squares in the painting to indicate the busy squares and thoroughfares in New York city. Manhattan specifically is full of so many buildings of different shapes and sizes that one could get lost in the maze. I remember walking in the city a couple of months ago and not being able to even get sunlight as the skyscrapers seemed to be competing with each other on who would be taller.
