A time to remodel all

Falling in love, a
risk he took willingly to
give meaning to life

Being a tenant in an integrated township, he had felt thankful during the pandemic. Amidst the endless lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, he felt happy seeing people around. While the world outside had changed, there was at least a sense of normalcy when he was in the township. As people shared each other’s pain, the community grew stronger.
But as he stepped into the world outside, he could hear a voice echoing in his head warning him of the dangers that lay ahead. He was unsure on what all had changed.
“Crucial to finding the way is this: there is no beginning or end.” He knew that he couldn’t rush into the pre-pandemic life in a matter of days or weeks. The health measures need to be followed as the health threat was still elevated.
It would be a slow return to business as usual.

We loved each other
to the moon and back but you
left me at the altar
We promised to be
by each other’s side but you
left me at the altar
We had some lovely
times together but you
left me at the altar
What started as joy
turned into depression as you
left me at the altar

Flashy and rigid
on the outside, soft and calm
on the insides
As I cut it, I
visualize the power and
strength it symbolizes

As they lay watching
the stars, they felt pure bliss not
having to stress out
But in the dead of
night, a shape-shifter had
other plans up its sleeve
While they got curious,
it went berserk posing a danger
to anything in its path

Defeat is part and
parcel of life and shouldn’t be
an embarrassment
II
Victory is all
that matters and defeat is
surely an insult

Note: A palinode is an ode or song that retracts or recants a view or sentiment to what the poet wrote in a previous poem.
As I look back, I
keep wondering whether he
really loved me
We started as friends
in school, chit-chatting away
for hours on end
He always made it
a point to do what he could
to see others smile
He always went out
of his way to impress me
or so I observed
