Effects of a pandemic

Effects of a pandemic

People rushed into hospitals with a mystery illness,

Doctors lost their bearings as hospitals filled up,

Masks and PPE suits were in short supply,

Roads emptied up as people sat home,

Money dried up as companies and countries gave way

People didn’t have enough food to eat as jobs were lost,

It was a pandemic within a pandemic,

Years of disagreements between people were brought out in the open,

Differences between the haves and the have nots kept increasing,

Unfortunately some suffered much more than the others,

The pandemic had shaken the world in a way not seen in generations.

Beds packed with patients,

Doctors in masks and PPE suits,

Loved ones left waiting.

From the time, I was born, I have been addressed as this special kid who has become used to being wrapped in cotton wool.

I was quick to realize that the speed and the thought process with which I did my coursework was no match in front of the other students in my class many of whom never left the chance to ridicule me as if I were some joker.

There were so many instances when I came crying home to my family only for them to keep me motivated to fight the big bad world out there.

They always believed that if one has the dream to achieve something in life, even the universe conspires to make that dream come true.

While doctors called me a special child since I had dyslexia, for me the will to achieve something special only became stronger over the years.

All of us have various goals and dreams. Irrespective of our passions, most of us aim to become rich and famous. But, isn’t there more to life than just earning good money? Isn’t happiness defined by the work you do, the people you meet which includes your friends and family and the time you get to do your own thing?

There are so many of us who dedicate their lives to help others. Companies do it as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) while individuals do it for their personal satisfaction at having given back. Helping others could be through monetary benefits, psychological benefits, health benefits etc. For some of us, keeping others happy is what makes us happy.
