Sam suggested that his cabin would be the perfect getaway for some fun times with friends. As the day wore on, the clouds looked ominous.

In the woods

They all had their share of fun and just when they were ready to call it a night, they heard a loud bang outside. Almost immediately, the doors and windows swung open. The moon was shining bright and the wind was howling. Suddenly and without warning, Sam was pulled away into the darkness.

And then he woke up with a start. He was sweating and breathing heavily. He was relieved to find himself in bed

“It’s been ages since we hung out.” Josh missed the pre-pandemic life.

“Oh tell us about it. The pandemic and endless lockdowns have been so challenging.” The entire squad exclaimed in unison.

“What about a drive today?”

Losing control

And before his friends could say anything, he got out his flashy new BMW and off they went for a spin. As they reached their favourite spot, they were just overwhelmed taking in the environment after so long.

But while coming back, the excitement got too much as Josh lost control and rammed his car through the boundary wall of his neighbours estate.

100 word fiction: Going towards emptiness

100 word fiction: Going towards emptiness

With her camera in tow, she was ready to go out to photograph how deserted the city became every night. As she stepped out of her house, it was already late afternoon.

The seeds which she had sowed quite a while back had given way to a small plant with many flowers.

While nature was going on as per its usual course, all the markets, roads, restaurants and more came to a standstill every night as a lockdown had been enforced.

Being the journalist she was, it was her job to photograph the emptiness all around. It was quite bizarre.

“Ahh, these biscuits look lovely! It’s like the perfect gift for Easter. Thanks so much. My family would love them. I would surely decorate these along with a note full of love.”

Annie always enjoyed seeing her customers smile. Whether it was Easter or Christmas, she had not let the pandemic dampen the enthusiasm of her customers.

In times of crisis like these, she knew that her sweets would coincide with the arrival of joy and music in people’s lives.

After she was done for the day, she loved sitting at the lonely chair amongst the trees behind her house.

A celebration..

100 word fiction: Summer vs Winter

100 word fiction: Summer vs Winter

It was a warm summer day with brilliant sunshine. With the temperature in the early 20s, it was the sort of the day which one would spend out in the open as much as possible. He was used to the long and cold winters and therefore seeing the sun was a time to rejoice, an emotion he longed for.

As he walked down the stairs to tend to his fields, he couldn’t help but remember how white everything looked during winter. At times, the heavy snowfall would make things quite dangerous. And then, he would covet the warmth of summer.

Fright

Fright

As he and his new bride walked hand in hand in the park, they saw a statue which seemed enough to give one quite a fright at night and so they knew they had to refrain from walking around that side of the park so that no one could vilify them for being such cowards.

100 word fiction: Remembrance

He stood there looking at their photos in remembrance of the times they spent together. While she was a scalawag of some sort, their friendship hit it off.

Though they did have their fights and arguments where she ended up with a moue of disdain, they laughed it off together at the end of the day.

100 word fiction: Apple picking in a pandemic

Apple picking in a pandemic

“Thankfully, we could make it in time for apple picking.”

“Yeah, all the apples look so fresh. This was a lovely experience especially considering the pandemic has pretty much locked down our lives.”

“Though I hope there were less people around.”

Apple picking in a pandemic

Once they were back home, they sanitized everything and made sure to take bath. In times of the pandemic, they always did this whenever they went out.

In the night, they woke up with a sweat having dreamt of someone sitting lifeless on a chair. Had they done the right thing going out in the middle of a pandemic?

Picking up the pieces

Picking up the pieces

While his staff were busy building the annex, his boss was busy in asking him very pertinent questions. Despite his attempts at trying to answer them to the best of his ability, she wasn’t satisfied and felt that the expenditure was over the top.

She compared this to a room in a building which was left empty when it was deemed to be excess to ones requirements. It was decided to break everything down and then pick up the pieces amongst the bricks which lay there. While his team was frustrated at all the effort they wasted, they couldn’t do much except lament.
