Dimante Poem for dVerse Challenge: Poetics – Flipping Meanings

Note: It was quite a lot of fun and an interesting challenge to flip the script i.e. write an opposite poem.

Cycle of Seasons

Cycle of Seasons

As the seasons change, so does a lot in our lives.

While spring is the time for new plans to look forward to,

Summer is the time for so many outdoor activities.

While autumn is the time when colours and seasons change,

Winter is the time for getting in the warmth and spending time with family around the fireplace.

As the seasons change, so does a lot in our lives.

Skywatch Friday – View from Helgeandsholmen Island, Stockholm

Helgeandsholmen Island in Stockholm

Dusk falls over Stockholm on a cold winter day..

“The light is amber, the air still; the daylilies have folded in on themselves. Soon, the hooded blue of dusk will fall, followed by the darkness of night and the sky writing of the stars, indecipherable to us mortals, despite our attempts to force narrative upon them.”

Microblog Mondays: The rising mercury..

The mercury touches 50 degrees

The mercury touches 50 degrees

The summer has slowly but surely set in many parts of the world. As the mercury touched a scorching 50 degree Celsius (122 degree Fahrenheit) for a while here in Kuwait today, I was left wondering on the trials and tribulations various people around the world undergo due to extreme weather events.

Moscow Diaries: Ice-cream at -10 degrees

Want some ice-cream?

Want some ice-cream?

Are you a winter kid who would love to go out for a walk when it’s bone-chilling cold?

It was around -10 degrees in the evening when I was out for one of the City Tours in Moscow. While I had quite a few reservations about handling the cold before I landed in the city, I adapted myself quickly enough with more than enough layers of clothing. While on the tour, all of us decided to head to an ice-cream parlour.

Ice-cream in the middle of winter? You gotta be kidding me. But I must say that this is an experience all ice-cream lovers would truly appreciate ;). That feeling of taking each bite of the ice-cream without worrying about it melting away is priceless.

100 word fiction: A gloomy morning..

A gloomy morning..

A gloomy morning..

PHOTO PROMPT © Sandra Crook

“Ma. Look around this place. Everything seems to have turned white with the amount of snowfall we had last night.”

While this winter had been unusually warm, the snowfall had dumped more than a few feet of snow throughout the sleepy town of Budsworth.

As the sun rose the next morning, Rosaline and her mother stepped out for a walk to the nearby reserve. The trees which were usually lush green seemed totally lifeless without their leaves. Moreover, with the overgrowth of wild bushes and mushrooms, it seemed as though the area hadn’t been tended to since a long time.

Written for the photo prompt and you can read the other entries here.

Winter is coming.. Brr!

The winter is coming in just a few days. Have you bought your warm clothes yet? For those who don’t really have a season called winter, do you have any plans of traveling to the mountains on a trip?

The snow is slowly starting to cover the mountain peaks. The trees and flowers have begun to disappear behind the white blanket created by the snow.

We humans are never happy. When it’s really hot, we crib about the extreme heat and how rains would make things better. When it rains, we crib about how too much rain is pouring water over our plans to hang out. When its really cold, we pray that it becomes warmer so that we can live in peace.

Short Story 9: Destiny of Life

The emptiness in my heart mirrored the vast open sea. There wasn’t a soul around till the eyes could see. The sea seemed so calm that one wouldn’t even know that when it gets angry, it can even kill.

“People crave for a chance to look at me. But you don’t seem to care. Who are you?”

Wearing a tube top and hot pants, she seemed dressed to kill. Oodles of makeup, botox, straightened hair; guess she loved to look artificial. She didn’t seem the type who you would find on cruise liners.

“Are you talking to me?” I was taken aback at this sudden conversation.

“Yes Mister. Diana is talking to you. Any doubts?”

“Uh Oh! Am I bothering you? I am really sorry.”

“You seem weird. Is everything ok?” She put her palm gently on my shoulder out of what seemed genuine concern.
