100 word fiction: Her specs

Her specs

“I feel as though I have got a new life with these specs post my surgery. There was a time when I struggled to open my eyes under normal light. My eyes watered excessively due to the dryness in the atmosphere.”

Despite having a caring family and achieving a lot in her career, Sarah seemed perennially unhappy. Her eye condition had deteriorated so much so that it had started affecting her daily life.

The ophthalmologist suggested that an urgent surgery was the only option followed by getting the right kind of specs. And the rest as they say is history.

When she inflicted pain for love..

Love turned sour..

Love turned sour..

While they were far apart in terms of distance with both of them engrossed in studies on different continents separated by thousands of kilometers, their love was the one common thing which made their world go round. From WhatsApp chats to Skype calls, they always kept each other updated on their lives and everything which came with it be it happiness or despair.

This went on for a few years until he popped the question silently smiling to himself expecting her to say yes almost immediately. Both of them were now working and making their way up the career ladder slowly but surely. She was shocked and blatantly refused exclaiming that this was the time when she wanted to concentrate on her career and couldn’t think of anything else. While he was devastated, he was half expecting it considering their conversations had dramatically reduced since quite a while.

“His movies have been doing really well off late. Looks like he has finally reached the zenith of his career.”

He had come to the city of dreams with just a little luggage and a lot of dreams in hand. Everyone advised him to go back since without a godfather he would just struggle and go nowhere. Struggle he did. It took him more than 10 years of running around, doing odd shows, theater and what not to finally bag his first big project.

And then, there was no looking back as his career got the momentum it was looking for.

I am participating in the A to Z challenge in April  and the theme I have chosen is Micro-fiction

Do women want to be treated specially or equally?

In today’s day and age, everyone talks about equality between men and women in every sphere of life. Whether its professionally in the corporate boardrooms or sharing chores at home, women expect to be treated at par with their male counterparts. But there’s a thin line between treating women equally or specially. Which one do they prefer?

When you want something, even the universe conspires in helping you achieve it

Source: http://thousandbytendays.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/41.png

And here goes another of my favourite quotes.

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you could go all out to achieve it? Have you ever been so determined to get that one job? Have you ever waited for that one break to kick start your creative career as a musician, artist, writer and the likes? Have you ever studied with as much dedication as you could to pass the entrance exams to the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs)?

The route to success..

“The route to success is littered with numerous obstacles which test your resilience. Only when you begin your journey will you actually realize how far you can go.”

He was an eternal optimist who believed that though things are not always easy and perfect, good things always happen to good people in the end. Seeing that his son had a keen interest to pursue a career in music, he always encouraged him to consider taking it up professionally.

He believed that if one did experience challenges and obstacles on route to success and overcame them, success would feel even sweeter.

Five Sentence Fiction – Confusion

Lost and Confused Signpost
Source: http://www.workplaceconfidence.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/confusion-that-costs-money.jpg

Her parents had always decided everything for her from the time she was born. From the food she ate to the people she met to the college she went to, her family had a say in almost every decision of her life.

Though she did talk about her likes and dislikes, she believed that parents always decide the best for their children until she had to make the decisions on her career and marriage.

“Having always lived my life on my parents terms, do I really know what I want to do five or ten years from now?” This question was eating her up from the insides for many months.

Look at your friends. Some of them are pursuing ‘Engineering’ while others have taken up ‘Medicine’. A couple of years of struggle and they will make good money and be happy in their respective lives. For them life is like a bed of roses. Look at you. What did you tell me you are doing? Arts? What is this? Are you crazy? What will you earn? How will you keep your family happy? How will you support us? God. Did we bring you up to see this day?

How many of you have had a discussion like this with your parents / guardians? Everytime in life when we try to do something different or something interesting or something new, there are numerous obstacles we are forced to face. Whether its our near and dear ones not supporting us or us failing in whatever endeavour we pursue, obstacles run behind us all the time.
