Never say never

Never say never

As the clock ticked by,

the virus returned in a

lethal avatar

Note: For those who thought that they had defeated COVID and it was all a thing of the past, unfortunately with the 2nd / 3rd / 4th waves, the virus has reminded all of us that we are mere mortals.

100 word fiction: Museum’s secret

Museum's secret

PHOTO PROMPT © Anne Higa

“Wow! This is amazing. Who would have known that this old well still had so much water to offer.”

The history museum had a number of artifacts and exhibits for people to admire. But the well was its most visited site especially for those who were interested to see how challenging it was to get water during the historical ages.

While they had heard and felt that there was some water down below, they were never sure without any specific proof to go by. This was until the day they finally struck gold when they heard a gush of water.

Leaving home - A birdie's journey

Keeping him in her memories

Keeping him in her memories

It had just been a while since he was gone. Her world revolved around him from morning to night. And now, he had just been cruelly taken away from her.

Her mind just kept wandering back to the last time she saw him. The day was as hectic as it could get and she had never ever been this busy. While she had been a tyro at the start, she had built a strong career in the decade she had worked at this organization. And things had just kept getting busier. She didn’t even have time to bid him goodbye while leaving home. Little did she know that that was the last time.

She kept reading about rebirth and also hoping for a message in a glass bottle from him indicating that he was fine.

She believed – If you are a dreamer, come in.

Note: The line – “If you are a dreamer, come in” is from Shel Silverstein’s poem Invitation as published in his book Where the Sidewalk Ends.

Jaded

Jaded

It only takes a little bit of lace to ruin a marriage.

Her confidence in marriage took a beating as the other lady took precedence while she was jettisoned. While the initial phase together was memorable, the last few years were the difference as they were spent in foraging for happiness. Their relationship did break years ago and nothing could mend it. She never wanted him to feel imprisoned though now was the time to set free and give him his freedom.

Prodigious talent

Prodigious talent

He had played a seminal role in setting up the team and his prodigious talent was always on display as they won many weekend tournaments ensuring that it was more than enough to keep the disquiet amongst supporters to a minimum especially those who doubted his age and experience.

100 word fiction: Going towards emptiness

100 word fiction: Going towards emptiness

With her camera in tow, she was ready to go out to photograph how deserted the city became every night. As she stepped out of her house, it was already late afternoon.

100 word fiction: Going towards emptiness

The seeds which she had sowed quite a while back had given way to a small plant with many flowers.

While nature was going on as per its usual course, all the markets, roads, restaurants and more came to a standstill every night as a lockdown had been enforced.

Being the journalist she was, it was her job to photograph the emptiness all around. It was quite bizarre.
