Safe to open up?

Safe to open up?

People see what makes sense to them, reality notwithstanding.

The calls to open up had reached a crescendo in countries where vaccines were aplenty. People yarned away without appreciating how lucky they were compared to the rest.

Spring’s arrival

Spring's arrival

Spring arrived with mud and a torrent of bad news.

They planned the expedition but unfortunately the weather ended up being a bummer. Considering his dexterity when it came to all things travel, he had organized everything in advance.

He also made sure to convince his best buddies who lived at the front and back of his house along with the solitudinarian. After the great winter freeze, the snow did melt away before spring arrived. But their trip just froze away instead becoming a fodder for so many around them.

Sanitation

Sanitation

The rat ran and he chased.

But the rat’s speed was so much so that he couldn’t keep pace. He had for long asked the authorities to ensure the cleanliness in his locality. It was all the more important for him as he ran a bakery which had a lot many visitors. And without proper sanitation there wouldn’t be any customers.

But the apathy of the authorities made the presence of rats and other such organisms inevitable. This apathy had affected his zest for his business. But he knew that he couldn’t take anymore of their drivel and needed to do what was right for the good of his business.

Jaded

Jaded

It only takes a little bit of lace to ruin a marriage.

Her confidence in marriage took a beating as the other lady took precedence while she was jettisoned. While the initial phase together was memorable, the last few years were the difference as they were spent in foraging for happiness. Their relationship did break years ago and nothing could mend it. She never wanted him to feel imprisoned though now was the time to set free and give him his freedom.

New Start

A new start

People see what makes sense to them, reality notwithstanding.

While the supporters were only human to expect a comeback from their team after a decade of success, the defeat which sent them crashing out of the World Cup had actually spelled the end of the road for many of the team members.

This became an overture to a long delayed overhaul of the entire football ecosystem in the country. It gave everyone time to figure out the way forward and to pick up the pieces and start afresh.

100 word fiction: The Shell Collector

The Shell Collector

Tamsin’s heart drummed frantically as she tore through her pack, her books, and the messy desk– where was it?!

It had been over a week since since she visited the nearby beach after her interview. She always went there in search of peace and calm and was resolute in her quest to find it. She found it the perfect place where she could simplify all the challenges of her life just through introspection.

Everytime she went, she collected a few shells and brought them home keeping them on her shelf. But this time, she seemed to have misplaced her collection.

Written for the photo prompt and you can read the other entries here.

Ashamed

Ashamed

Dominic bowed his head to hide his face. He felt ashamed of steps he took despite attempts to proclaim new beginnings.

When asked to save, he decided to spend. While others called him shallow due to his love for money, he considered it a deep paradox that having so much he couldn’t spend.

Eventually, it was too late as his temerity gave way to his shady dealings which marked his end.

Memories

Memories

If winter is death, surely, red-slashed autumn is the wound that brought it. It had been a strange year with the magnitude of issues. But he pursued whatever he could as vigorously as ever to add memories to his vault. He did rest and work and was now ready for the melt and freeze of winter.

She was there

She was there

He laid awake and said the name into the night. He was making noise by hitting the ark. She was obdurate even though it may have seemed asinine to anyone. While he was honest, her medium sized tricks were enough to illude and if caught to elude others.

She never looked at the arc of life through a prism of right and wrong. And then she was there. He tried to scream but couldn’t.

Zany personality

Zany personality

The late morning was clear and crisp as Sawyer stepped out of the travel hostel. His zany personality didn’t require to refine his antics. While he rushed through the entrance to get married and then eventually crossed the exit to get divorced and out of darkness, his wittiness spoke – “Thankfully, I don’t need to be frugal anymore with the container now full.”
