100 word fiction: Mornings #AtoZChallenge

100 word: Mornings

It was unusual to see the streets so empty without the incessant honking. There were almost no pedestrians to worry about crossing the roads without a care in the world.

Birds of all shapes and sizes which had not been seen in the city for decades had suddenly reappeared as if out of magic.

Every morning, it was a struggle to catch the commuter train to work but not today. The central station had gone so quiet that even a falling pin would have made noise. There were platforms where you couldn’t see a soul even when a train arrived.

Quote: No one left and no one came on the bare platform.

It had been a long time since they had met each other in person. Their love had gone ‘virtual’ for the foreseeable future in the face of lockdowns and quarantines. While it wasn’t something they were ever prepared for, they tried to take it one day at a time to adjust to the new normal.

Five Sentence Fiction: Joint #AtoZChallenge

Five Sentence Fiction: Joint

He had lived for years in a joint family environment. Whether it was the meals or the electricity and water bills; the emotions or even the gossip floating around, he had seen everything being shared.

But times had changed as newer members started getting added to the family. The irreconcilable differences over the last few months had given way to massive arguments.

He had never imagined that it would be possible, but the day had finally come when he was being thrown out of his own house.

“We take so many things for granted, don’t we? Normally, on such a beautiful spring day, I would be taking my boat out for a spin. But now is anything but ‘normal’.”

Garett looked out of the window at the beautiful rainbow and could only sigh wondering how humans had never been grateful of the simple things.

He had all the money one could amass. He had the fanciest of houses in the best of locations. But here he was, locked down in a far corner of the world due to a virus which had the world in its grasp.

“I will roam the world one city at a time and take in all the sights and sounds bit by bit.”

It had been more than a decade since Hannah had proudly informed her family on her desire to travel the world.

While she had only covered a few countries in the interim, she was making sure that she could save whatever money was possible from her job bit by bit.

And then one fine day, she finally got what she was waiting for. She had landed in a job in an international airline and now her dreams finally had wings.
