They felt that they had assembled their best ever squad for a World Cup. In the past, it was a case of so near yet so far as they performed really well until stumbling at the final hurdle. But this time, things seemed different as they had won almost everything leading up to the tournament.

It had been months since he had visited his family. The world got locked down as things got worse. Hundreds were dying and thousands were losing their jobs each day. Months later when some of the travel restrictions were lifted and he could take off for his hometown, he finally started to feel ‘normal’ again.

It neither looked human like nor anything like she had seen before. She began running as fast as she could. But it ran faster and faster. Just as she thought that this was the end, a group of men with flaming torches came running towards the monster. And then, she woke up with a start.

It had been a long time since they had met each other in person. Their love had gone ‘virtual’ for the foreseeable future in the face of lockdowns and quarantines. While it wasn’t something they were ever prepared for, they tried to take it one day at a time to adjust to the new normal.

His work involved loading and unloading the goods arriving at the dock day in and day out. While the work was indeed back-breaking, he always had the extra motivation as he felt that he was doing all he could to ensure the public was fully stocked up whether in natural disasters or during a lockdown.

They loved going for long drives every weekend. But this time they wanted to do something different. With regular supplies to last for quite a while including an emergency first aid kit, they set off in their RV for the trip of a lifetime. They intended to drive across America and experience the surroundings firsthand.

The dark clouds were slowly gathering over the horizon as the aeroplane came into land. The rain came first followed by hailstones which battered the plane’s windshield making it almost impossible for the pilots to have any visual cues. As they prepared for a go-around, the emergency alarms sounded in the cockpit indicating a problem.

“I love this city in particular due to its various walking trails and nature reserves.”

Both Ryan and Sonya had both been deputed to the city by their organization at almost the same time. They loved their daily walks amidst the tranquillity provided by these reserves far away from the pollution and the maddening crowd.

He loved to run..

His knees couldn’t take the shooting pain anymore. The doctors had exclaimed that he risked aggravating his condition if he returned to the track.

But his determination and hard-work in keeping himself fit and ensuring that he went out on a high were enough to take him to the podium for perhaps one last time.

A few years back, they had shifted to the small nation of about a million people. While she took some time to settle down, he was enamoured by the peace and tranquillity all around him.
