Transition of Thoughts

Weaving thoughts into words

The ‘other’ pandemic

The 'other' pandemic

The pandemic has upended our lives in more ways than we can imagine. Alongwith the direct impact in terms of fatalities, health concerns, there has also been the indirect impact. People have lost their livelihoods along with savings which took years to build. Children have lost their precious years of school life. Families have been torn apart in more ways than one can imagine.

And to top it off, more and more people are going hungry and facing poverty than ever before. Years of gains in equality and social welfare along with treatment of other diseases has all been lost within a matter of months. As the number of mouths to feed continues to increase, families continue to wonder on what would happen the next moment.

“Only mouths are we. Who sings the distant heart which safely exists in the center of all things?

It’s truly heartbreaking 🙁 the number of deaths taking place in India, and the current situation. I have been following the news and was deeply saddened by what happened in Andra Pradesh. My best friend lost his mother recently and we are in mourning.

May her soul rest in peace. Hope the family gets the strength to overcome this terrible loss. Prayers. It’s heartbreaking to see the situation each day in India and the neighbouring countries. Hope and pray that things can get better soon enough.

  3. The sadness of the past year and even now will always stay with us. What is still happening in India is very sad to see. It is not over till it’s over they say. In this case that is very true!

Thanks Susan for your kind words. We all can hope and pray that things can get better soon enough. It’s just torturous to see this each day :(.

  5. A fervent prayer to our maker to show grace and mercy to all who are suffering right now. God let it be so.

Prayers! Hope things can get better soon enough. Fingers crossed.

  6. A very topical and painfully real response to the prompt. It is not just the disease itself but all of its related effects which do the damage, as you have stated so poignantly here.

True that. I guess the impacts of Covid will stay with us for years even if the actual health situation improves hopefully soon enough.

  7. I found it fascinating that you were able to seamlessly join Rilke’s line with prose.

  8. This pandemic has left its mark everywhere, but it is particularly tragic what is happening in India.
