Transition of Thoughts

Weaving thoughts into words

Keeping him in her memories

Keeping him in her memories

It had just been a while since he was gone. Her world revolved around him from morning to night. And now, he had just been cruelly taken away from her.

Her mind just kept wandering back to the last time she saw him. The day was as hectic as it could get and she had never ever been this busy. While she had been a tyro at the start, she had built a strong career in the decade she had worked at this organization. And things had just kept getting busier. She didn’t even have time to bid him goodbye while leaving home. Little did she know that that was the last time.

She kept reading about rebirth and also hoping for a message in a glass bottle from him indicating that he was fine.

She believed – If you are a dreamer, come in.

Note: The line – “If you are a dreamer, come in” is from Shel Silverstein’s poem Invitation as published in his book Where the Sidewalk Ends.

  1. Oh this hits close to home…..the idea that every day is a gift and we don’t know when our last moments together will be. Thankful for every day.

Thank you Lillian :). I guess we always need to appreciate the gift of life, the gift of seeing our loved ones and express how much we love and care.

  2. This was so power packed with faith and emotions. if you are a dreamer, come in! This will linger with me for the rest of the day!

I think her belief always remained as strong as ever :). This was what gave her strength to move forward.

True that. I guess that’s why its important to cherish the times with our loved ones and express our love and care.

  7. Well done, Aseem. You drew me in.

    Yours,
    David

  8. So sad and poignant!

  9. This is such a poignant piece, especially in the light of Queen Elisabeth II losing her husband of 73 years. I hope that I’m never too busy to say goodbye. If I should go first, I’ll most certainly leave a message.

Thanks Kim for stopping by :). I guess its important for all of us to realize that we need to cherish each and every day with our loved ones and express what they mean to us :).

  10. We never cherish our moments and take life for granted, don`t we?

    • transitionofthoughts

That’s unfortunately so true :(. Thanks for stopping by :).

  11. I love this post! It is so true that one must make every moment count because one never knows when they might come to an end. “If you are a dreamer, come in.” Lovely quote…

Thanks Iain :). I guess her beliefs were what gave her the strength to keep going :).

  13. Heartbreaking but I feel the hope in her beliefs and dreams. Having no chance to say good-bye has to be one of the most devastating experiences on top of the loss.

    • transitionofthoughts

Sadly that’s what’s happening during this pandemic as well as even family members aren’t able to see their loved ones who suffer the fatal consequences :(. Her hope gave her the strength to overcome the loss.

      • Yes, tht is so true. My mom had Alzheimers and was in a nursing home. I was unable to see her for nine months and then… she died. We did not have the chance to hold her hand or tell her good bye or even that we loved her. it was very heartbreaking.

  14. Very short story with so much truth and feeling to it. We never know when it is the last time, when that person that we cared about will be gone. It happens in an instant and it’s always when we aren’t looking. Thank you for the beautiful, heart felt story.

  15. Beautiful emotion
