Transition of Thoughts

Weaving thoughts into words

Window

Window

As I look outside,

I see the beautiful

colours of sunset

As I look outside,

I see the empty roads caused

by the pandemic

As I look outside,

I don’t see known faces of

friends and family

As I look outside,

I keep wondering on when

will life be normal

  1. Oh, this is heartbreaking. When the pandemic first hit, it was bizarre seeing the highways and local roads empty like a ghost town. It’s very depressing and even on drives out now, there’s barely anyone around. On walks, zilch. No one around.

You describe our current reality very well. I think everyone can resonate with this beautifully touching piece as it captures the isolation of our world in its pure form. It evinces that humanity thrives on social connections. The emptiness the pandemic provides exacerbates our known sense of normality. When will we return to normal life? The answer for now is in the unknown, which is depicted in your piece.

Such an excellent and honest take on the prompt. Well done.

Thanks Lucy :). Yeah as you perfectly said we thrive on social connections. And actually that’s why I remember someone mentioning how its not important to social distance but instead ‘physical distancing’ is the term.

It sure is depressing not to see as many people as we used to. I hope something like this makes us appreciate simple things like going to a park, beach, mall, restaurant and more.

I also honestly hope that we all introspect post this crisis on the way we have been going and be the change we want to see.

  2. I like how you split the photo in half, where the lower half is the urbanization and the upper half the gorgeous sunset. It feels symbolic in how you are trying to rise above the dysfunction of now and keeping hope alive for a brighter time ahead.

  3. Beverly Crawford

You enumerate all the things we miss, and our concern with whenever things will return to some semblance of normal. Coincidentally, you’ve posted a beautiful sunset photo, nature’s promise that this old world is spinning on. We need that promise.

Thanks :). Hope is what we all have. And I am hopeful for a better future and for a time when things will be normal the way we were used to it before.

  4. I saw two puppies playing in my neighbor’s yard, to the delight of three children under five, and I wondered if the kids or the dogs even had a clue of what thy are living through?

    • transitionofthoughts

I guess these kids will study this in their school / university years from now on the way humanity went through this crisis.

  5. Great photo and poem on the signs of our times. The pinkish sunset gives me hope that things will be even better than normal again.

    • transitionofthoughts

Thanks :). I am sure things will be better but yeah it will definitely take some time.

  6. Yes, you’ve captured the power of looking out the window – it is both beautiful as a sunset and full of empty streets, far from our loved ones. A poignant piece for these difficult times. Thank you.

  7. You captured that pandemic vibe of the city – empty streets, lack of people and cars outside & deaths in the family. I wish things would get back to normal too.

Great photo of that glorious sunset.

    • transitionofthoughts

Thanks Grace :). I wish so too. I guess until then, we all need to do what we can to overcome this pandemic together and emerge stronger than ever before.

  8. Perhaps this is the new normal? The sky doesn’t seem to care.

    • transitionofthoughts

Yeah that’s actually quite interesting how the world moves on whether its the changing seasons or the sun rising and setting or even the birds singing their songs every morning. I hope it’s not a new normal but yeah I guess like humans have always done, this is time to adapt and keep moving forward.

  9. We are all wondering that. (K)

  10. When, indeed. I think it will take a long time.

    • transitionofthoughts

Yeah I guess you are definitely right. It’s going to be quite a while for things to be ‘normal’ again!

  11. Oh you captured so much with the photo and the poem. While the undercurrent is unhealthy, the emotion and desire is what makes us human. Well done.

  12. Hope, joy and anticipation glistening in the horizion 🙂 I loved the poem and the photos very much
