The world watched in horror as the number of bodies piled up and the hospitals began reaching their peak capacity. Though he did vacillate between staying put or going back to his family, he finally decided the latter.

As was customary by now, he had to quarantine himself at home for a period of two weeks. While it did initially feel quite ridiculous to not even be able to hug his own family, he knew that it was only a matter of time.

Meanwhile, the gates were kept locked and any orders were picked up when no one was around.

  1. We have had to adapt so very quickly, haven’t we? Keep safe.

    • transitionofthoughts

To be honest, this shows the adaptability of humans on how they have adapted to the so called ‘new normal’. I am quite amazed by that.

  2. If only it had been possible for more people to have isolated earlier

    • transitionofthoughts

Oh definitely and also if people who had the privilege to isolate did bother to isolate and take all the necessary health precautions. But I still believe that if all us work together, we can still get through this.

  3. Good suggestions. Hoping these precautions are taken by all so we can see the light at the end of the tunnel eventually.

    • transitionofthoughts

We all have to work together to get through this. The sooner people realize that, the better it is.

  4. Yes, the not hugging part is hard.

    • transitionofthoughts

How the world has changed that common things like hugging ones loved ones are not that common anymore.

  5. Oh to hug again! You don’t realise how important it is until your are stopped from doing it.

    Here’s mine!

    • transitionofthoughts

Oh that’s sadly so true. There were so many things which we took for granted and are only now realizing how important they were.

  6. You can get used to anything. Now I find it hard to remember how it was before when I freely mingled without a care.

    • transitionofthoughts

True that! I guess it feels so long that its becoming difficult to imagine the way life was before coronavirus struck.

  7. Indeed a reality for all too many these days. Hopefully times will ease soon. Let us all wear masks and be kind to each other.

    • transitionofthoughts

Amen! We need to take care of ourselves and also of each other. And I guess that’s the only way we can get through this.

  8. It’s good he quarantined before hugging the family. I’ve chosen the former, staying put, and it’s extremely difficult. But, getting on a plane is terrifying. It will pass and a new normal will be established, we must be patient. Nice thought provoking story!

    • transitionofthoughts

Thanks Brenda :). Yes, I guess choosing to stay put is a wise choice considering the way things are getting worse by the day. While flying is surely quite scary now, as you said things will pass and we all will eventually get used to this. So many of us have adapted to this new normal and I am sure we will get through this together.

  9. I prefer to think of it as a “temporary normal.” A new normal implies that it could become permanent, a possibility that is just not worth pondering.

    • transitionofthoughts

True that. Even I think this is temporary as things will get better. But I hope this teaches us that we can’t take things in general for granted like doing simple things such as going for walks, meeting friends and family, eating out at restaurants etc. It’s important we actually learn to appreciate such simple things too :).
