Book Review – Unlocked

First things first, I must admit that I have generally not been a big fan of poetry. Only recently have I myself tried to attempt writing some of it. But I do love history and I was intrigued at the fact that an author could attempt to tell historical stories in the form of poems. And that’s why I knew I had to pick this up from the Blogchatter library.

The blurb goes like this:

Is history your Waterloo? No more! The anthem ‘History is Boring’ is now passé. The title and the cover which has images of different historical events and figures over the pages of a book make you want to move forward and know what the book is all about.

Each chapter of the book is about a different moment in history. I like how Sonia brings forth perspectives on history from different parts of the world whether its about leaders like Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi etc, or other historical events like the sinking of the Titanic, the Emergency in India and even the history of quarantine.

Every chapter starts and ends with the details on the historical event or leader. The best part is the fact that every poem is narrated in the form of a story which ensures that you would stay interested throughout. The depth of each poem also shows that Sonia has gone to great lengths in researching all the content and being true to what she wanted to tell.

Honestly, I didn’t really find any negatives which shows that Sonia has done a brilliant job in keeping the reader interested throughout.

So what are you waiting for? Even if you aren’t a fan of poetry or history, you should still pick this one. Am sure once you read the poems, you wouldn’t feel disappointed and this could bring forth a new found interest in the world of poems and history.
