You may want to clarify your thought, though. I get that the politician referred to the journalist, but it’s not clear who kept mum, the journalist or the politician.

Depending on how well liked the politician is, it may be best for the journalist to say nothing about who appointed him to this job. 😉
Actually, it seems pretty hard for any politician to do something that someone won’t complain about.

True that. A politician anywhere generally has a tough job since there’s someone who would be unhappy at the end of it all. Yeah and that’s why the journalist just thought that it’s better to stay quiet :).
