A hero is a someone who has achieved greatness in something and has the courage to be different compared to the rest and thus avoids joining the bandwagon. A hero goes one step further to make a difference in people’s lives to see them smile and remain happy.

There are so many heroes we find each and everyday around us. The soldiers fighting at the border against our enemies are heroes. They don’t sleep for nights and stay away from their families for months just so that we can sleep happily at night.

The various activists and social workers who have dedicated their life to protect children, needy women, families from hunger, providing them basic necessities and more are heroes. Rather than worrying about the comforts in their lives, they dedicate their lives to help and support others in need just so that they can see a smile on people’s faces.

The various sportsmen who win laurels for the country are heroes. They work day in and day out just so that they can win a medal or championship for the country and make the people of the country proud on the world stage. They make sure that the sacrifice made by their family members and friends doesn’t go to waste.

The cleaners in our homes, on the road, in public toilets and more are heroes who keep the streets and the surroundings clean. Without them, the sanitation conditions around us would be a disaster. They are the ones who pick up the bottle or papers thrown by us on the roads.

The policemen and those who protect us from everyday crimes are heroes. They sacrifice their sleep and also their family life just so that we can stay safe and go about our daily lives without any problems whatsoever.

The drivers at our homes or the drivers of trucks on the roads are heroes since without them neither would we be able to go from place to place nor would we be able to get our basic necessities.

We have so many heroes and more in our midst. It’s all about respecting what they do and understanding that each of them is a hero in their own right. Each of us can be a hero. From being the change one wants to see to showing small gestures like giving a hug to those in need; from promoting love, care, kindness and the power of doing good to being empathetic to those in need, there’s so much one can do to be a hero. It’s all about what you can do for others rather than what others can do for you.

Start today! Heroes are not extraordinary people. They are simply ordinary people who do extraordinary things.
