Are you a winter kid who would love to go out for a walk when it’s bone-chilling cold?

It was around -10 degrees in the evening when I was out for one of the City Tours in Moscow. While I had quite a few reservations about handling the cold before I landed in the city, I adapted myself quickly enough with more than enough layers of clothing. While on the tour, all of us decided to head to an ice-cream parlour.

Ice-cream in the middle of winter? You gotta be kidding me. But I must say that this is an experience all ice-cream lovers would truly appreciate ;). That feeling of taking each bite of the ice-cream without worrying about it melting away is priceless.

Moscow diaries: The walk to the office..

Moscow has one of the oldest and longest tram networks in the world

Moscow has one of the oldest and longest tram networks in the world

As someone had rightly said, the best way to experience any city is by walking through the streets and taking in the sights and sounds all around. While on the first morning, I had asked my colleague to pick me up from the hotel, I decided that from the evening onwards, I would make the 20 minute journey on foot between Правды ул (Pravdy Street) and Лесная ул (Lesnaya street) where my hotel was located.

Why should you report sexual violence?

Newspapers across the world are filled with various incidents of sexual violence day in and day out. Perverted & voyeuristic minds, patriarchal societies, the repression of women at every level are some of the underlying factors which have led to an alarming increase in sexual assaults across nations.

While a lot of such cases are being reported, there are thousands more which aren’t reported at all. Whether it’s the fear of being outcast or the fear of death, there are so many countries where women are scared of even going to the police station. The societal reactions make people turn a blind eye to the sufferings faced by women which could even be their own daughters. But they rarely realize that if such incidents go on, the so called civilized society will slowly cease to exist.

As she looked out of the window, she dreamed of a day when she would be free from the pain he had inflicted upon her for years.

When children feel scared, they run to their parents for support and care. But what if parents themselves are the source of fear? Anna’s father had tortured her sexually and psychologically for years on end after her mother had passed away in tragic circumstances.

If that wasn’t enough, he also hit her whenever he could, made her do all the household chores and locked her up within the four walls of the house.

привет из Москвы

During school, we have all studied about the Tundra region characterized with shrubs, mosses, pine trees along with dark and gloomy winters full of snow. I had always seen snowfall in movies but as I stepped out of the Domodedovo Airport at the outskirts of Moscow in late November, I immediately got my first experience of how snowfall felt.

We all take inspiration from various sources in our lives be it friends, family or even the experiences they have gone through at different phases in their careers. This helps us in learning the steps to be taken to achieve success and avoid failure. It serves as a motivation to achieve great heights in our careers.

While I did write a few editorial columns in Times of Oman and was part of the editorial committee of Riviera (the international fest at VIT University), it wasn’t until I started my blog in 2009 that I got serious about my writing.

We all have those few things which we can’t live without. From a phone to a book; from nail polishes to creams, we tend to start getting nervous if any our favourite things aren’t around us.

As I began thinking of the things that I can’t live without, it also struck me that few of these things weren’t actually necessities even just a few years ago.
