Memories are moments or periods of life which play a role in shaping our thinking and belief and also influencing our way of doing things. Memories may be beautiful, not so beautiful and the ones which are actually nightmares. We always make it a point to remember the beautiful memories. But as is human nature, nightmares are at the forefront of our minds as well.
For me, the most cherished memories are those which were spent in the Sultanate of Oman with my family where I was born and brought up. Those 17 odd years of my life in the beautiful and tranquil country were really well spent. The times at Indian School Muscat, the walks in the beautiful parks, the drives on the lovely roads, the visits to the spectacular beaches, the exchanges with the hospitable people – it was truly beautiful.
Obviously as I moved on to complete my engineering at VIT Vellore, there was a sense of apprehension and nervousness on the way life would pan out. But then, with a few of my friends tagging along to the same university, there was a sense of relief that I had people to interact with from Day 1. The times at VIT taught me so much about life including being independent, choosing the right friends, learning to travel alone, doing simple tasks as opening a bank account and more. More than just the age, I grew up a lot mentally in those 4 years.
As the cliche goes, I grew into a young adult from being a kid particularly during the engineering days.
Though there have been memories and lots to learn and take in beyond my graduation days as well, those days in Oman and Vellore acted as stepping stones to make me the individual I have become today.

The memories are priceless and define us at later stage in life. I have had the best of memories in Pune and Mumbai which made me grew in leap and bound, in comparison to my earlier life which was lame and mediocre.

We all learn something or the other from our memories Vishal. While memories are both good and bad, even the bad ones teach us so much so that we implement those learnings at a later stage in our lives.

Interesting how our experiences shape us and our memories change with age, don’t they? What we may have seen as painful at the time can be a warm lesson now. Such is the beauty of memories. Well said, Aseem.
