Her parents had always decided everything for her from the time she was born. From the food she ate to the people she met to the college she went to, her family had a say in almost every decision of her life.

Though she did talk about her likes and dislikes, she believed that parents always decide the best for their children until she had to make the decisions on her career and marriage.

“Having always lived my life on my parents terms, do I really know what I want to do five or ten years from now?” This question was eating her up from the insides for many months.

A doctor by profession and a writer by passion, “The Devil’s Gate: An Impossible Journey” is Deepak Kripal’s first novel. Though he is already a known name in the blogosphere, he was waiting for the right story to debut with. Does it work? Let’s check it out.

The blurb goes like this –

Plundered by humans of their habitats, animals take a drastic step when they decide to send a team of a cat named as Katy and a dog named as Dug, to an invisible island known, as the Island of ‘Five Hundred Graves’. The island becomes visible only for a short time on the night of the full moon.

Legend has it that the island is inhabited by the demons. Katy and Dug are supposed to negotiate a deal with the demons, convincing them to allow the animals to inhabit the island. Majority of the animal community believe that tinkering with the other world could bring their wrath to the animals. The team is sent to the island nevertheless.

But can a deal with the dead be materialized?

Are there really demons on the island? Is there any conspiracy involved?

Will Katy and Dug be able to negotiate, or will survival remain their only question in the deadly island.

After bidding them goodbye, Tara finally sat to work on the assignment which was thrust upon her much against her wishes. Once she was done with cursing all her bosses, she began to concentrate on the job at hand.

Somewhere nearby –
With his chiseled features complimenting his blue eyes and the French beard he had just started sporting, Aryan looked like someone straight out of a model photo-shoot. Despite not being remotely associated with the celebrity industry, he had girls swooning over him. A terrific computer wizard, he knew the way to hack into the most secure firewalls one could ever think of.

Packing Laptop? Check. Ironing clothes? Check. Having a bath? Check. Coffee? Getting ready for office every day involved him having his daily dose of coffee. It was like caffeine had permeated through his system and without his daily dose, he wouldn’t survive the day. For about fifteen minutes, he searched every nook and corner of his house but he couldn’t find the sugar packets he had brought a few days back.

Every day of my life is one of self discovery. From putting all my energies at work meeting different people throughout the day to putting my thoughts into words on my blog at night, I make sure to follow my passion. Whether it’s about learning the art of time management from observing my peers or multi-tasking almost anything, there is so much I get to learn from life each day. We shouldn’t live our lives solely on terms and conditions set by our dearest ones. And I am proud to say that today I am who I chose to be.

Risking their own lives by helping ordinary citizens stuck in raging waters, they were going all out to protect everyone in need. But even in this hour of pain and suffering, there were those who kept pelting stones at them needlessly accusing them of being biased. Perspective matters, doesn’t it?

Tara’s demanding schedules meant that the Dutta’s hadn’t had a proper family vacation for years. And so when her boss decided to give her a few days off for working too much, Shekhar and Roohi got together to make the plans.

“Yayyyy. I am already dreaming of making my own castles on the beaches.”

“Tickets? Check. Clothes? Check. Hotels? Check.” Father and daughter were busy at work sorting out all the formalities while mom was occupied with work as usual.

Though Tara was engrossed in her laptop with last minute work, Shekhar knew that God’s own country with its pristine beaches, the backwaters and the beautiful landscapes would give her time to relax and enjoy with their little princess.

With greenery as far as the eyes could see and its unspoilt beaches, Kerala provided the perfect getaway from the din of Mumbai. Though Tara couldn’t avoid taking the most important calls, the time she spent with Roohi and Shekhar day after day made her understand the importance of family.
