Directed by and starring Ben Stiller, ‘Tropic Thunder’ is a parody of what could happen during the making of a ‘Vietnam War’ story. Mr. Stiller plays the action star hero – ‘Tugg Speedman’, who is trying to keep his acting career alive as his previous movies have begun to lose their appeal with the audience. The storyline of this flick is based on a fictional book of the same name, Tropic Thunder. Steve Coogan who plays the role of the director, decides to submerge the spoiled actors into the thickness of the jungle to shoot the film as acting setbacks and budget losses force him to take control of the situation. This parody of film creation easily becomes a memorable one.

1. Acting – Loaded with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, each character brings something unique to the table of ‘Tropic Thunder’. The separation of acting between the actual movie and the inner storyline is a great parody of decades old war movies that many of us grew up with. The actors themselves portrayed their characters with undeniable distinction as each role added something more to the movie.

2. Makeup – One of the most memorable aspects of ‘Tropic Thunder’ is the incredible makeup used on Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr in order to make them nearly unidentifiable from real life. At first glance, both of these actors are well hidden behind the look of their characters.

Robert Downey Jr is nearly completely disguised as he plays the character ‘Kirk Lazarus’ – an Australian actor who delves deep into the psyche of the character he portrays in movies. He changes his voice, mannerisms, and facial features so well that if you didn’t know it was Mr. Downey, you wouldn’t easily recognize him.

Tom Cruise is a little easier to identify in the character of ‘Less Grossman’- the mogul behind the movie studio fronting the production for ‘Tropic Thunder’ in this film. Although the makeup artists do an amazing job of creating a whole new look for Mr. Cruise, there is just something around the eyes that give his true identity away.

3. Dialogue – Tropic Thunder has a great cast with an equally great set of dialogues for each character. One of the things that makes a movie memorable are the quotable lines within. This movie is full of them. Some of the most memorable lines are those of Robert Downey Jr, Tom Cruise, and Jack Black. The script is definitely not for children under the age of 13 as some of it can be quite graphic. If you’ve seen any of Jack Black’s prior flicks, you’d get the idea.

‘Tropic Thunder’ is a movie that would appeal to those who enjoy parodies of life. Although the circumstances surrounding the movie are not totally realistic, it is entertaining to see Ben Stiller’s directing methods create a situation where movies could possibly emulate real life.

  1. I just hoped to just take a couple of minutes and tell you that I enjoyed
the post. I seriously don’t believe generally people know the level of energy that goes into establishing a good web-site. I’m sure this is kind of random however it bugs
me occasionally. Anyhow nice blog site.

  2. I’ve been surfing on-line more than three hours as of late, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is lovely worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the net will probably be a lot more useful than ever before.
