Life

Life

Life is like the waves in the ocean,

sometimes there are ups

while at other times there are downs.

When there is a lot of good happening, there could be so

much of it that people start

to get out of touch with reality.

So when the ‘bad’ comes along,

people are stunned thinking as to

what hit them.

A mix of both the good and the bad is

what makes life worth living as one

keeps working to turn around the ‘bad’ into the ‘good’

and to turn the ‘good’ into something even better.

It had been a long and dull winter with a lot many snowstorms day in and day out. He was a perspicacious individual who always liked to be engaged in something or the other. For someone as professionally inclined as him, he had to find unorthodox ways to keep himself occupied.

And so at the first instance of summer, he took out his cycle. While he initially thought of the empty roads, he knew that cycling by the sea hearing the waves hit the shore felt blissful.

But as the rains came suddenly, he ran for cover under the gate.

Alone at the beach

Alone at the beach

Looking towards the horizon

with the sun setting in the background,

and hearing the sound of the waves hitting the shore

with him lying lazily on the beach,

he knew that he was a beach bum at heart

and could spend days alone there.

“Covering all the exotic surfing hotspots in the world is surely part of my bucket list. The adrenaline rush while riding a wave cannot be replaced by anything else.”

Being an adventure freak all his life, Ron loved taking challenges head on. And this rush to take up challenges is what cost his life.

As the waves started to get bigger and stronger, he missed his balance, fell into the rough waters and began to drown before he could even realize what was happening.

Though it appeared as nothing more than an antique piece of wood for anyone, for Raju it was his daily bread and butter.

For years, he had been taking his wooden boat out into the open sea to get his daily catch of fish for selling in the open market. From extreme heat to deadly winds and rain, his boat had weathered it all.

Seeing that it could sail through every challenge in his life, he had slowly but surely developed an attachment towards it so much so that he refused an offer to put it up in a museum.

As I looked out of the window, I could see the dark clouds boiling with rage in the distance. As they neared the city, the sky turned gloomy. The sea was rough and the waves were battering the shore relentlessly. It mirrored the sense of tension and trouble, the city had seen in recent times.
