“You seem so depressed as if the world around you has collapsed completely.”

“I have been giving interview after interview but haven’t been able to crack even one of them so much so that now I have started doubting my own capabilities.”

“Dude! This is just the start of placements and there are so many more companies which will be coming in the next few weeks.

Rohan was advising Sam to keep the faith and if he continued working hard the results would show up.

On the next interview day, for the first time since the start of placements, Sam decided to call his parents for their blessings and by the end of the day he had finally bagged the job he so badly wanted.

It had been a few days since she had started getting those flowers at the doorstep. Though there wasn’t a name or a message, her initial reaction was of utmost happiness and delight as she seemed to have an inkling on the sender.

Interestingly, though these were beautiful, these flower types weren’t the usual kinds which people gifted their loved ones.

As the days went on, though the flowers kept coming weekly, her condition had started deteriorating with debilitating affects being observed on her nervous system courtesy the smell of these flowers.

What started as delight was slowly but surely turning into a cold blooded murder.

Five Sentence Fiction: Stranger than fiction

Ron always had the knack of being at the right place at the right time. Despite, being born and brought up in one of the most violent neighbourhoods in the city, he was used to cheating injuries and even death day in and day out.

As life went on, his business took him to far off nations which he wouldn’t have even dreamt off a few years back. While the odds of an air-crash are 1 in a million, he was unfortunate to be at the center of two such accidents in 2 years.

He would have miraculously survived both of them if only it wasn’t the fire truck which killed him after the second crash.

“It seems as though we are all becoming xenophobic to the world around us. All we seem to be thinking of is ourselves.”

Ron’s movement against racism had begun out of his own experience when he was assaulted and harassed just because he looked and spoke a different English accent than the rest.

He was astonished to face such treatment in a city which he could call home as his parents had arrived there more than 40 years ago.

And so, he immediately made it his mission to play a small but important part in removing xenophobia out of the city.

While they were the best of friends since childhood, Bobby was way ahead of Ronnie at every step in life be it at work, in making women fall in love with him or making lots of money. Though he was slowly but surely burning with jealous rage, Ronnie held on in the hope of guarding his friendship.

But when Bobby tried to woo Ronnie’s girlfriend, something snapped and Ronnie knew that the time had come to get back.

“I just want you to know that I love you.” And he held her hand tight as they knew that they were in this together.

It had only been 25 minutes since they had taken off for a trip of a lifetime to the beaches of Krabi when things started to go wrong.

What started as mild turbulence turned into a full blown emergency as the aircraft suddenly banked right and started descending rapidly causing mayhem all around with passengers who weren’t strapped up, food in the plates and even luggage all being thrown around as cries for help flooded the cabin.

Just when most thought that it was all about to end, things became normal as suddenly as they had started.

“These guys seem to play the game ‘without their brains’.” A former player himself, he had made a name in the world of commentary over the years with his insightful analysis and forthright views.

But little did he know that his sarcastic comment would rekindle the fire in their belly and they would rise from the ashes like a phoenix.

There was a time when they were labelled as mercenaries who ran behind money rather than having pride in representing their country.

But they came back from being labelled as a bunch of no-hopers to being world beaters by using all the negative talk as a motivational tool in an us against the world scenario.

“You deserve to be thrown out of the community and this village forever for the sin you have done of falling in love with a guy from another caste.”

Rajesh, her father and head sarpanch went on as he pulled her by her hair from their house to the center of the village and thrashed her.

Hers was a simple family in a village where the panchayat made all decisions on whatever they thought was good and bad for everyone irrespective of what the ministers in the government decided.

She was frustrated seeing her father come home drunk and hit her mother day in and day out.

When Rohan came into her life, it seemed as though her life had some meaning and she even hoped to convince her family one day.

Five sentence fiction: I am special because..

From the time, I was born, I have been addressed as this special kid who has become used to being wrapped in cotton wool.

I was quick to realize that the speed and the thought process with which I did my coursework was no match in front of the other students in my class many of whom never left the chance to ridicule me as if I were some joker.

There were so many instances when I came crying home to my family only for them to keep me motivated to fight the big bad world out there.

They always believed that if one has the dream to achieve something in life, even the universe conspires to make that dream come true.

While doctors called me a special child since I had dyslexia, for me the will to achieve something special only became stronger over the years.

Five Sentence Fiction: The pictures which spoke a thousand words..

“I could have never imagined that people can be so cruel as well. How can anyone let alone humans be tortured this badly?”

The young couple had gone to watch a movie after which they were waylaid by a group of rowdies who robbed, raped and tortured them to death. Working as a social activist, Vikram had come across many such cases of death and despair.

But this one stood out for its sheer gruesomeness so much so that even the papers had blurred out the pictures of the incident.
