“I love this city in particular due to its various walking trails and nature reserves.”

Both Ryan and Sonya had both been deputed to the city by their organization at almost the same time. They loved their daily walks amidst the tranquillity provided by these reserves far away from the pollution and the maddening crowd.

His knees couldn’t take the shooting pain anymore. The doctors had exclaimed that he risked aggravating his condition if he returned to the track.

But his determination and hard-work in keeping himself fit and ensuring that he went out on a high were enough to take him to the podium for perhaps one last time.

A few years back, they had shifted to the small nation of about a million people. While she took some time to settle down, he was enamoured by the peace and tranquillity all around him.

“When you look at his stroke-play and exquisite timing, you would truly believe that he has an inborn talent.”

He had picked up the bat when he was 4 and rose through the ranks of age group cricket to qualify for the senior team before turning 18 thus becoming the youngest player to debut in international cricket.

Whenever he saw his friends with their respective girlfriends, all he could do was curse his luck. Despite the looks to die for and the intelligence anyone dreams off, he had always met women who were chasing his money.

And then, he found her. Her ethereal beauty was enough to swipe him off his feet.

I gave him all the love and affection usually reserved for my family. In return, he just gave hollow promises of love and togetherness. From the day he walked out of my life, hope and despair reigned supreme as I tried to pick up the pieces. Though the years passed by, the tears never stopped.

“It’s only during your solitude that you dig into your mind.”

With the vivacious and cheerful persona she possessed, she could easily impress anyone. Normally surrounded by hordes of friends, she loved being away from everyone for a couple of hours every day to introspect on the things she learned and could have done better.

It was January – the beginning of a new year full of hope, fun and surprises for almost everyone around the world.

But for her, the task of finding her missing husband continued endlessly. She put on her favorite jeans gifted by him and set out on the journey to continue her week long search.

They were facing the worst drought in decades. With destroyed crops and deaths due to excessive thirst, the drought had started to affect daily lives. There was water all around the island but not a drop to drink.

Dressed in western formals with a laptop bag to boot, she looked the perfect working woman. She signaled for an auto and sped off to her destination. As she got out and walked calmly to her cabin, a loud bang was heard somewhere in the distance.
