Journey to a self hosted blog

Blogging Journey to a self hosted blog

Blogging Journey

It’s been 7.5 years since I began blogging. When I started my journey, blogging was just about penning down my thoughts and feelings. It simply felt like an online diary where I could rant about anything and everything under the sun. It’s taken lot of hard yards on the road to a self hosted blog.

Slowly, I realized the importance of comments, shares, likes, having a social media presence and so on. It was all about making oneself heard. Blogging was no more a pastime among a select few which was the case in the early 2000s in India. It seemed as though almost everyone was rushing to open a blog. But then, more than 90% of them remained dormant after a few posts. In this clutter, one had to make an effort to be heard and seen.

In conversation with Nishant Kaushik: Author of multiple bestsellers

Nishant Kaushik is the bestselling author of Watch Out! We are MBA, A Romance with Chaos, Conditions Apply and My Father is a Hero. He keeps a day job with Infosys Limited and currently lives in Australia. You can find him on Twitter.

He joins us for a quick tete-a-tete.

Aseem: How does it feel to be the author of multiple bestsellers?

Nishant: I am not yet content. Bestseller is an ambiguous term, because as well as your books sell, they can always sell more. I keep working towards that.

Aseem: How different is writing novels when compared to blogging? Do you like one above the other?

Nishant: I prefer writing novels (I am not a very regular blogger). When I write novels I get a chance to escape the real world and delve into the alternate universe my characters inhabit. That journey is something I relish, and I don’t get to experience it while blogging.

3 blogs I am thankful for..

Thankful Thursday

Over my 7 years 0f blogging, I have more often than not realized the fact that blogging is not just an individual activity. While each of us writes on his or her own blog and the thoughts are personal, blogging communities and events play a strong role in helping build a community spirit. Why do we need a community spirit? Whether its exploring different writing prompts, learning the tricks of the trade from experienced bloggers, co-authoring books and articles and more, for bloggers the acronym BFF has become ‘Blogging Friends Forever’.

There are numerous blogs which I do take out time to read. Though I do admit that I am irregular in the sense that I may read many posts at one time and then would come back again only after a few months.

While it was difficult to narrow down my list from the numerous ones I read, here goes 3 (or I say 4) of them in no particular order.

Parul Thakur (http://www.happinessandfood.com)

Parul writes on a variety of topics which includes issues faced by women, travel and photography, gratitude lists, food posts and more.

I love the way she articulates her thoughts about any topic she writes. She has a lucid writing style and doesn’t hold back in calling a spade a spade. Her posts also reflect how observational and thoughtful she is. All in all her posts are a reader’s delight.

Deserted at the altar

Deserted at the altar

“I guess this is it. We were meant to be together only till this point.”

“Are you out of your mind? All the preparations are done. Everything is finalized. The marriage takes place in 2 hours. And now you say that its over?”

“Yes, you heard it right. There’s someone else in my life.” And saying this, she walked away with tears in her eyes even before he could ask the questions swirling in his head.

Despite their numerous attempts, her parents hadn’t agreed to their relationship. And she feared that if they got together, their lives would be at stake.

7 people I am thankful for..

There are so many individuals or groups of them who make a difference in our lives in various ways. While we genuinely feel for some of them, there are many others who we detest and would never like to meet again.

Moreover, it’s not necessary that you have to meet people for them to make a difference in your lives. I see that your surprised. So let’s quickly get down to penning the list.

Family:

We are what we are because of our family. They are the ones who bring us up, teach us the values of good and bad, bear our tantrums and help in moulding us into good human beings.

100 word fiction – Storm clouds..

The storm clouds moving in...

The storm clouds moving in…

PHOTO PROMPT © Lucy Fridkin

“The rain is starting to get heavier as we speak. It’s better we head back as soon as possible lest we get stuck in the storm. The clouds seem to be coming in quicker than we had imagined.”

Rennie always loved to take his Cessna every weekend for a joy ride over the coast. The views of the evening skyline from the cockpit were astonishing.

Though there was the danger of the storm approaching, his son also wanted to experience the city from up above the clouds. But as soon as they took off, they ran into some turbulent weather.

Written for the photo prompt and you can read the other entries here.
