Mumbai, the city that never sleeps may seem like any other overcrowded metro in India. But it has a lot more to offer than shopping malls and awesome street food. It is blessed with numerous historical sites, religious places and architectural wonders that will leave you spellbound by its simplicity.

However, one of the most intriguing things about Mumbai that not many cities in India can boast about, is the sheer number of neighbouring hill stations and exotic getaways that it has.

From Matheran to Igatpuri, from Panchgani to Alibaug, the number of places that you can visit when you are in Mumbai can seem endless. Apart from being only a short drive away from Mumbai, these places are unique unto themselves, which makes the trip to these beautiful places all the more exciting.

You can go trekking, explore pristine beaches, go sight-seeing, visit amusement parks, visit places of worship or just relax amidst the peaceful ambience. There is no end to the number of things that you can do when you visit these getaways.

To add to it, you can indulge in a host of adventure activities in any of these places while at the same time enjoy the panoramic view of mother nature. Places like Kolad, Nagothane, Diveagar and Kamshet are particularly well-known for their adventure activities like rappelling, kayaking, para-gliding, white water rafting & other water sport activities that promise to be an enthralling experience, one that you will treasure for life!

Moreover, for people who love beaches, there are many unspoiled pristine beaches with sandy shores, that present you with the view of the vast Arabian sea. Beaches like Guhagar, Bordi, Revdanda are some of the most secluded and least explored beaches and as a result offer you relaxing environs wherein you can swim or stroll for hours without the fear of being disturbed, as you watch the sun go down.

Also, for people who love exploring architectural ruins, they can visit the famous Ajanta and Ellora caves, which are known for their Buddhist monasteries and rock structure monuments or head to Junnar to see the ancient cave temples. Animal lovers and bird enthusiasts can visit the popular Karnala Bird Sanctuary or Malshej Ghat that is home to many wild animals and birds.

To sum it up, like mentioned before, there are many other weekend destinations close to Mumbai that are detached from the bustling environs of urban Mumbai.
