100 word fiction: Man vs mountain

A rocky situation..

A rocky situation..

Ramesh, a daily wage labourer couldn’t have imagined that he would lose his wife through a freak accident as she slipped from the nearby mountain and injured herself. Though he tried, he couldn’t make the hospital in time.

Her death drove him to use a hammer to carve a path around the mountain. Every day he stood barefoot on those rocks hammering the mountain away. Though, he encountered various injuries, he still carried on. It took him two decades to win the battle against the mountain and reduce the distance from the village to the hospital by more than half.

Note: This story is inspired from Dashrath Manjhi’s life.

  1. I’ve read about Dashrath and his resolve…quite an achievement! Shame on the Govt. who didn’t help him!
