At every step in life, we have to make choices. Choices for our career, choices for the one we want to marry, choices like going out or not, choices on the movie we want to watch or the food we want to eat and the likes. Some of these choices need to be made everyday while others are those that need to be made over a period of time.

Many individuals make their choices based on fear. The fear of the unknown, the fear of not succeeding, the fear of not being accepted, the fear of being ridiculed and so on and so forth.

Though we have ideas to start a venture of our own, we don’t take the plunge because we fear failure. We opt for the cushy environs of a 9 to 5 job. There’s someone who we deeply love. But due to the fear of rejection from our parents and society coupled with our inability to convince them, we move on and do what our parents ask of us. We don’t go to the movie or the restaurant of our choice for the fear that our loved ones wouldn’t really warm up to our liking.

Why do we go through our lives living in fear? Without hope and dedication to succeed, we can never establish a venture despite having the best ideas in mind. In matters concerning love, our ability to convince our loved ones is what’s even more important than just finding love.

Living in fear and worry can never keep anyone happy. Life is all about making ones choices with hope and work towards it with dedication and in right earnest. These choices may not always lead to happiness. But then ups and downs are part and parcel of life aren’t they?

Beautifully written and so true, I lived so much, the majority of my life making decisions based on fear, it has taken me a long time to realise I need to live my life for me and make choices that feel great rather than forced. Thanks for sharing and linking with us at #Fridayreflections

Oh I can truly understand. Decisions made in fear just lead to compromises and acceptance of situations as they are. We always wonder what will society say. What will our parents / family say. In this fear, we never think that such decisions would affect us in simple but small ways. Good to now you liked it :).

  2. You’re so right! So many of us fall prey to the famous ‘what-will-people-say’ syndrome that is rampant in India!

And that’s what takes us down. We end up compromising on what we want to do in life just because we are worried what others will say.
