Rochelle Potkar is a blogger, a fiction writer, a poet and more. She has been writing stories across various genres for the past 8 years. The Arithmetic of Breasts & Other Stories was nominated for the Digital Book of the Year Award 2014 by Publishing Next, Goa. Does it work? Let’s check it out.

The blurb goes like this –

A cluster of 7½ literary short stories presenting the romantic-sexual facets of: Narain who lusts for Munika, Old Jaganlal who wants a favour from young Dia, Jackie who is in love with Nic, a surgeon who is changing more than a patient’s hairline, nose, lip, and chin, Shonali and Neel who are realizing that infidelity might not be such an easy thing, a woman who walks the tight rope between tradition and sexual exploitation, and Sunil who meets the woman of his desires through an adult dating site. Through these stories, Rochelle Potkar explores the intensely personal ‘unrelationship’ that exists alongside its conventional and socially articulate twin, the relationship.

Getting out of the train

As the train entered the station, I took my bags and got ready to leave. But the next I remember is hearing the shrieks of my relatives seeing me bleeding.

Even if I had been physically assaulted, I didn’t remember a thing.

Microblog Mondays: A blogger’s challenge?

Concentration is the key for blogging

Concentration is the key for blogging

There’s so much that goes behind writing a single blog post. How many of you have ever faced a scenario wherein there were a lot many topics in your mind but you weren’t sure what to begin with? Choosing a topic and then writing a post on the same covering all the points you had in mind requires a lot of dedication and commitment.

It’s all about concentrating religiously without getting distracted by anything around be it technology, people or any mundane day-to-day tasks. For posts where we need to research online before writing, it’s upto us not to fall into the temptation of surfing online and forgetting our primary goal. Once we complete a blog post, the comments, shares and the likes we get (or don’t) motivate us to write even more.

“You have gone too far with materialistic pursuits. It seems as though friends and family have become non-existent as far as you are concerned. Do you ever sit back and think on what you are missing in life?”

Roy had been a brilliant student both at school and university. Within a few years, he had risen to the upper echelons of the organization due to his commitment and dedication.

But he had just been through a painful divorce. He hadn’t been in regular touch with friends or family for years. His personal life was a disaster of the highest order.

“With the monsoons coming in, we need to move back our dwelling inside the tunnel. Otherwise, the rains will destroy our lives.”

The Kumar’s had lived for years on the footpath running across the city’s busiest street. While Ram and his children begged at the nearby traffic signal, his wife – Kanti went from door to door doing the cleaning and the dishes.

Over the years, their life had come under danger both from drivers who ran over footpath dwellers as well as the unrelenting rain. And this is where the tunnel under the newly built flyover came to their rescue.

“Whoever is there, you better come out or I will make sure you come out my way.”

Donna called out loudly but she was greeted with eerie silence. All of 52, she had been living alone in her four bedroom mansion since her husband had passed away a few years ago but despite her age, she had the energy and the zest of a 20 something.

And then, a young man staggered away from the darkness and fell to the ground after a shock and awe assault. She had caught hold of the thief in the nick of time.

All the world's a stage and men & women are merely players

All the world’s a stage and men & women are merely players

Source: http://www.writespirit.net/wp-content/uploads/old-images/shakespeare-all-world-stage.jpg

Isn’t the world a stage where all of us have different parts to enact? As infants, we are small and want all the love and care of our elders. Though we don’t understand emotions or the trials and tribulations humans face in the big bad world out there, we do know that crying indicates that we aren’t happy. From wanting food to going to sleep; from feeling uneasy to not getting what we want, we have a simple reaction to all and sundry – Cry.

Microblog Mondays: 6 years of blogging..

Blogging..

Blogging..

Source: http://buzzghana.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/03/blogging.jpg

And I complete 6 years of blogging today. It’s been one interesting journey of learning to write, meeting new bloggers, making new friends, winning a few contests, making a name for myself in the world of blogging but most importantly having the pleasure of being able to convert my thoughts into words.

As I got deeper into the facets of blogging, I started to read a lot more. I began my blog as an online diary where I could pour my feelings about anything and everything affecting me directly or indirectly. But, over the years it has an evolved into a one stop shop containing stories, reviews, opinions, interviews and a lot more.

Stepping into my 7th year of blogging, I thank all of you for the constant feedback, encouragement and critique over all these years. Without its readers,  any blog is nothing but a barren land.
