The world runs on hope. Even in the worst cases of depression, despair, tragedy and the likes, there’s always that silver lining and ray of hope which keeps one going. It’s all about finding that ray of hope and trying to stay positive when the chips are down. But then, it’s easier said than done.
When disasters like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, plane crashes etc. take place; there is a huge loss of life and property. In the case of natural disasters, entire cities and countries are destroyed. It’s really difficult to stay positive in such a situation. But then, there are moments of positivity in tragedy as well.
Haven’t you heard stories of people surviving below crashed buildings and walking out alive after earthquakes? Haven’t you heard mother’s giving birth to children during war and other disasters? Haven’t you heard of plane crashes where some passengers were saved because they didn’t board their flight at the last minute?
There are always a few stories of positivity and optimism which exist amidst tragedy and despair.
It’s very easy to be sad, distressed and cynical in one’s life. But being happy and optimistic requires a great deal of mental strength, courage and resolve. A lot of us tend to think that if we prepare for the worst and something good happens, then it’s like the best thing ever.
I remember during my school days, there were a lot many instances where people studied really hard for their exams and had written their papers well too. But they always felt that things hadn’t gone too well and therefore keeping expectations low was the best thing. But despite this, in their heart of hearts they would still hope to succeed which they almost always did.
One of my friends had quite a stormy marriage from the beginning. While she made it a point to take care of her husband in the best possible way, he wasn’t happy with her for one reason or the other. Whatever she did, he always tended to find faults. She took it all in her stride and strived to make things work as well as she could. Finally, she had to cling onto her last hope.
She prayed that maybe having a kid in her life would improve things. And almost miraculously, their son’s arrival brought about a sea change in the way her better half behaved towards her. It seemed as though he had completely transformed overnight.
We all face problems and pressures at work. From bosses asking their employees to do overtime to not getting paid for the amount of work done, there are problems of every kind at work. But the feeling of coming home to your family, having home cooked food and relaxing cannot be replaced by anything in this world at all.
Hope and optimism go hand in hand. Our lives are too long and our health is very important to be cynical and unhappy all the time.

Not sure what all makes us tick as people. But I don’t think it just hope.

True, Dora it may not just be hope which takes us along in times of crisis. But it does play an important role in keeping us sane when we are in trouble and don’t have too many options to get out of it.

That’s a great post and I agree to each word there. Hope keeps us going!
This was such a great prompt. We all loved writing about it 🙂

Yeah hope is what we have especially during the worst crisis in our lives :). Thanks.

Very true…we have to be hopeful that things will improve sooner than later, else we might risk affecting our health. Being postive might actuially work in our favor some other way.

Sure, being positive always helps in one way or another :D.

Oh yes, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. They say that the road that is built in hope is more pleasant to the traveler than the road built in despair, even though they both lead to the same destination. Glad that it finally worked out for your friend!

True, hope is what keeps us going even in the worst of times. While hope by itself is not enough, it at least ensures that we have something to keep us going and working towards something fruitful.
